Follow-Up from October 30, 2008 Board Meeting

Listed below are issues that were raised during the October 30, 2008 Board Meeting that required some additional information and/or follow-up. 

1. What is the county paying for nurses not under contract?

2. Provide clarification of what that 5% (administrative costs) covers in the nurses’ contract.

3. DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills Assessment) - What is the cost of a PDA?  

850 Palm E2s have been purchased.  The average cost has been $170.06 per unit for a total of $144,550.00.  As of October 2008, the palm pilots are averaging a cost of $190 each.

4. Provide an organizational chart for the Smith Dropout Prevention Application.

 Attached is a copy of the final grant package submitted to the Department of Public Instruction on behalf of Smith High School.  The organizational chart is on page 15.

5. Develop a detailed list of school re-assignments made on a quarterly basis to the board.  The list will include the student‘s name, date of transfer and a one sentence reason for the transfer.  The receiving school will get that information when the transfer takes place. 

Staff is preparing a proposed format of the information requested by the Board.  Starting November 19, the Student Assignment Office will provide information of all transfers to the receiving school when the transfer takes place.  The information will be included as a footnote in the acceptance letter which is sent to the parent and to the schools involved.

6. Draft and send a letter regarding the new teacher evaluation policy to the State Board.

This letter was mailed to the state on October 31, 2008. 

7. Draft and send a letter regarding Adequate Yearly Progress letter to the State Board.

This letter was mailed to the state on October 31, 2008.
