Employee of the Month (August 2009)

Mayra Hayes
Sam's Club Recognizes Mayra Haeys asr Outstanding Employee

When a young student who didn’t speak English as a native language passed away, Mayra Hayes, the district’s English as a Second Language (ESL) director, was eager to do anything and everything she could to help the family. She translated condolence letters and talking points so all communication could be done in Spanish. In addition, she volunteered to go to the family’s house and explain the district’s plan to remember the student. Stopping at nothing to help, Hayes and a colleague picked up the family on the night of the remembrance. Without a doubt, her kindness helped the family navigate a very difficult situation, and her compassion and empathy set the example for respectful and responsive service in the district.

Hayes was surprised with the Guilford County Schools (GCS) Employee of the Month honors, and as such, she received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has generously partnered with GCS to support the employee recognition program.

Know an outstanding employee like Hayes who leads by example and settles for nothing less than excellence? Nominate him or her to be the GCS Employee of the Month here: www.gcsnc.com/employees/emp_month/index.aspx.
