ESPN Profiles Grimsley Student-Athlete for SportsCenter

Shaquille JacobsWith a camera and microphone inches from his face, Shaquille Jacobs diligently completed the calculations for a physics problem. His class was preparing for a test, and he was focused on the task at hand. The Grimsley High senior has faced life challenges, so perhaps attention from a national media outlet is easier to weather – even on a test day in AP Physics.

An ESPN camera crew visited Jacobs at Grimsley High on February 17 to get footage for a special that will air on SportsCenter in June. ESPN chose Jacobs from a group of young people who have requested sports-related wishes from the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Jacobs, who has battled leukemia, will have his wish granted this month. He will attend spring training with Philadelphia Phillies player Jimmy Rollins, and ESPN will be there to document the experience.

Jacobs is currently on the baseball team at Grimsley and will play at N.C. A&T State University when he attends college this fall.
