Parents must fill out the application in order for students to begin receiving free and/or reduced price meals.
“We want to make sure that all children have access to a healthy, nutritious meal every day,” said Cynthia Sevier, director of School Nutrition Services. “On Saturday, we hope that we will be able to help more parents get the application filled out quickly and accurately.”
GCS will accept applications any time during the school year, although the district processes most applications at the start of the school year. If financial situations occur such as a job loss, a family may be approved for benefits. Income eligibility guidelines are set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service and are based on income and household size.
Currently, approximately half of students district-wide receive free and/or reduced lunch benefits. For more information, contact GCS School Nutrition Services at 336-370-3266 or at 501 W. Washington St., Greensboro, NC.
