Dickson “Doc” Hendley, a 1997 graduate of Ragsdale High, is one of CNN’s 10 finalists for Hero of the Year. He is being recognized for his efforts to provide clean water to communities worldwide.
After learning about the world's water crisis while travelling during college, Hendley started Wine to Water, a nonprofit organization that provides water to people in developing nations and gives them the means to solve their own water crisis in a sustainable way. Since 2004, he has worked with communities in Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Cambodia. Through creative fundraising, Wine to Water has brought sustainable water systems to 25,000 people in five countries.
CNN Heroes highlights ordinary people who are making an extraordinary impact on the world. To read more about Hendley’s story and vote for Hero of the Year, click on the link below.
